Allison Benfield serves as the Minister for Spiritual Growth. She previously served St. John’s as Minister to Children and Their Families from June 2013-October 2019. In her ministry at St. John’s, she assures we offer the best possible opportunities for all to grow spiritually through things like Sunday School Ministry, weekday study groups, and special offerings like Ash Wednesday Sacred Space for Prayer & Renewal and Vacation Bible School.
Allison grew up in Morganton, NC where she volunteered extensively with children’s ministries at First Baptist Church. While earning her degree in Communication Studies with a concentration in Media Studies from UNC-Chapel Hill, she also served as a children’s ministry intern at University Baptist Church. She graduated with a Master of Divinity with a concentration in Christian Education from the M. Christopher White School of Divinity at Gardner-Webb University in May 2014.
She is a member of the Baptist World Alliance’s Commission on Christian Education and Nurture and has taught a master’s level course on Christian Education and Spiritual Formation with Children as an adjunct professor at Gardner-Webb University.
In her free time, Allison enjoys traveling to the mountains of North Carolina to spend time with her parents and her sister, enjoying a good cup of tea, laughing at the Muppets, and taking a dance class or two.
