Allison Benfield currently serves as the Minister for Spiritual Growth. She helps to nurture spiritual growth for people of all ages at St. John’s through opportunities like Sunday School Ministry, weekday study groups, and special offerings like the Ash Wednesday Sacred Space for Prayer & Renewal and Vacation Bible School. She previously served St. John’s as Minister to Children and Their Families from 2013-2019.
Allison is also passionately involved with spiritual growth in the global church. She serves on the leadership board for Baptist Women in Ministry of North Carolina, where she was Co-Convener from 2020-2021. She is also a member of the Commission on Transformational Leadership for the Baptist World Alliance, and recently served as a corresponding member of the BWA’s Commission on Christian Education and Nurture from 2015-2020. Allison has also taught a master’s level course on Christian Education and Spiritual Formation with Children as an adjunct professor at Gardner-Webb University.
A native of Morganton, NC, Allison volunteered extensively with children’s ministries at First Baptist Church throughout her teenage years, and later interned with the children’s ministry at University Baptist Church in Chapel Hill, NC. Allison holds a bachelor’s degree in Communication Studies with a concentration in Media Studies from UNC-Chapel Hill, and an M. Div. with a concentration in Christian Education from the School of Divinity at Gardner-Webb University.
In her free time, Allison enjoys traveling, spending time in the mountains, enjoying a good cup of tea, laughing at the Muppets, and taking a dance class or two.
