Allison Benfield has been the Minister to Children and Their Families for St. John’s since June of 2013. She serves St. John’s by assuring we offer the best possible opportunities for children and their families to grow spiritually through things like Children’s Sunday School Ministry, Worship Education, our curriculum focused on nurturing servant faith and Vacation Bible School.
Allison grew up in Morganton, NC where she volunteered extensively with children’s ministries at First Baptist Church. While earning her degree in Communication Studies with a concentration in Media Studies from UNC-Chapel Hill, she also served as a children’s ministry intern at University Baptist Church. She graduated with a Master of Divinity with a concentration in Christian Education from the M. Christopher White School of Divinity at Gardner-Webb University in May 2014. Prior to moving to Charlotte to serve St. John’s, she was the Children’s Minister at Beaver Dam Baptist Church in Shelby, NC.
She serves on the Baptist World Alliance’s Commission on Christian Education and Nurture and has taught a master’s level course on Christian Education and Spiritual Formation with Children as an adjunct professor at Gardner-Webb University. Her focused interests are in children’s spirituality and in worship as spiritual formation for children.
In her free time, Allison enjoys traveling to the mountains of North Carolina to spend time with her parents and her sister, watching films noir, laughing at the Muppets, and taking a dance class or two.
