Children’s Ministry

Through music, games, & activities, kids have the chance to experience
God and nurture their relationship with Christ.

Ministry for Children

St. John’s Baptist Church is committed to walking alongside children and their families as they discover more about God, themselves, and the world around them through stories of faith and caring relationships.

Our ministries for children include weekly Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, worship and missions education, PASSPORTkids Camp, and other opportunities for fellowship, service, and faith formation.

Our Missions

Once a month or more, our Missions Resource Team and Minister for Children and Their Families help children learn about ways St. John’s is doing God’s work in the world and why we do that work.

Children engage in hands-on missions through their work with Crisis Assistance Ministry, Baby Bundles, Room in the Inn, the CROP Walk, the Pride parade, and other local ministries in Charlotte.

Our Fellowship

Building relationships is important to faith formation. The main way we do that is by enjoying intergenerational time together. Monthly fellowship opportunities for children and their families are offered. Examples of fellowship opportunities include Pumpkin Painting Palooza in October, Advent Gingerbread House Party, Valentine’s Day festivities, and the annual Easter Eggstravaganza.

Parents have opportunities for fellowship while their children are cared for by loving adults. For example, Thursdays on the Town bring parents together bimonthly for food and fellowship on the town in Charlotte.

What To Expect

Infants and Toddlers

Our nursery ministry, for children from birth to 2 years old, promotes faith growth through music, stories, and nurturing relationships. On Sunday mornings, during Sunday School (9:15-10:15am) and Worship Care (10:15-11:30am), our infants and toddlers gather on the 2nd-floor hall.

Ages Three-Kindergarten

Children ages 3-Kindergarten make a weekly craft, hear a Bible story, sing together, have a snack, and play together. They meet on the 2nd-floor hall on Sunday mornings 9:15-10:15am. Children at this age stay in their room for the Sunday School and Worship.

Preschool Worship Care is from, 10:15-11:30am. Preschool Worship Care is provided by loving adults for preschool-aged children during morning worship. Preschoolers remain in their classroom, which is located on the 2nd-floor hall.

1st-5th Grade

Join us on Sunday mornings for an engaging and interactive Bible study, music, and fun for children in 1st to 5th grade. Led by our Children’s Music Director, Chloe Hall, they learn songs of faith and how to be worship leaders, with classes that provide the opportunity to lead worship. The sessions run from 9:15 to 10:15 am, right on the 2nd-floor hall.

At St. John’s, children in 1st-5th grades actively participate in worship to learn about it effectively and gain a sense of belonging. They serve as worship leaders through various roles, including processing with the Christ candle, reading scripture, and more. We believe that active participation and leadership in worship are vital for all ages. Plus, Worship Bags with engaging activities are available each Sunday in the Sanctuary, promoting children’s involvement during the service.
