Refugee Support Services, one of St. John’s mission partners, needs volunteers to assist in their English as a Second Language program, helping to assess the level of language needs of prospective students for the program.
What? Volunteers are expected to commit to a minimum of three months, meeting weekly (or monthly) Tuesdays or Thursdays, for 1, 2, or 3 hours with prospective ESL students, and following a prescribed process for the assessment.
Training is provided, beginning with the completion of a Refugee 101 orientation (several sessions are provided throughout each month), passing a background check ($19.00), and then shadowing a staff member.
Where? 3925 Willard Farrow Dr., at the entrance of Aldersgate.
How? Go to RSS website by clicking here and complete a volunteer application for a Refugee 101 session
